The Problem

A chat widget that only waits is a chat widget most visitors never open. They land on a product page, hesitate, and leave — and the assistant that could have answered their one blocking question sat in the corner, silent, because nobody clicked it.

The visitors who need help most are often the ones least likely to ask for it. They're unsure, they're comparing options, they're about to abandon a cart. A passive widget misses every one of them.

Proactive triggers change that. Instead of waiting to be opened, the widget reaches out at the moment a visitor is most likely to need it.

What You Get

Time-on-page triggers. Open the widget — or show a subtle nudge — after a visitor has spent a configurable number of seconds on a page. Someone who's been on your pricing page for 90 seconds has a question. Ask them.

Scroll-depth triggers. Fire when a visitor scrolls past a threshold — halfway down a long product description, or to the bottom of a docs article. Reaching the end without converting is a signal worth acting on.

Exit-intent triggers. Detect when the cursor moves toward the browser's close or back control and open the widget with a targeted message before the visitor leaves. This is the single highest-value trigger for e-commerce.

Page-specific rules. Different pages get different behavior. A proactive greeting on a product page, a help offer on a checkout page, nothing at all on the blog. Rules are scoped by URL pattern.

Custom opening message per trigger. Each trigger can carry its own message — "Questions about shipping to your country?" on a product page, "Need help completing your order?" at checkout. The message is what makes a proactive open feel helpful instead of intrusive.

Why This Matters

It converts the silent majority. The overwhelming majority of visitors never click a chat widget on their own. Proactive triggers are how you reach them — and for cross-border shoppers facing a question about shipping, language, or sizing, a well-timed prompt is the difference between a sale and a bounce.

Exit intent recovers lost revenue. A visitor leaving a checkout page is revenue walking out the door. An exit-intent prompt offering to answer the one question holding them back recovers a meaningful share of those visitors — at zero additional traffic cost.

It's table stakes for the segment. Every serious competitor — Tidio, Crisp, Intercom — has proactive messaging. For the e-commerce and travel buyers Companin targets, its absence is noticed in the first demo. This closes that gap.

Right moment beats more messages. Proactive doesn't mean annoying. Because triggers are scoped by page and behavior, the widget reaches out when there's genuine intent — not on a timer that fires for everyone. Visitors who get a relevant prompt at the right moment rate the experience higher, not lower.

How It Works

You define triggers in the dashboard, no code required. Each trigger combines a condition (time, scroll, exit intent), a scope (which pages it applies to, by URL pattern), and an action (open the widget, show a nudge bubble, or send a specific opening message).

Triggers respect the visitor. Once someone dismisses a proactive open, it won't fire again in the same session. Once a visitor is already chatting, triggers stay out of the way. Frequency caps prevent the widget from feeling pushy across a multi-page visit.

Everything a proactive trigger opens routes into the same AI agent, the same knowledge base, and the same multilingual handling as a manually opened conversation — including the visitor's detected language.

What This Replaces

The hope that visitors will click. Bolt-on exit-intent popup tools that capture an email but can't actually answer a question. Generic "Hi, how can I help?" bubbles that fire on every page regardless of context.

On the Roadmap

This feature is planned. When it ships:

Time-on-page and scroll-depth triggers first — the simplest, highest-coverage conditions
Exit-intent detection second — the highest-value trigger for e-commerce, with desktop and mobile handling
Page-scoped rules and per-trigger custom messages throughout, so the same install behaves differently on product, checkout, docs, and marketing pages
Frequency caps and per-session dismissal honored from day one, so proactive never tips into intrusive

Once live, the widget stops being something visitors have to find and becomes something that reaches the right visitor at the right moment — in their language.
