What is deflection rate?

A deflected conversation is one where a user got the answer they needed from the AI — without escalating to a human, without submitting a support ticket, without sending an email.

Deflection rate is the percentage of conversations that end this way. If 100 users chat with your agent and 73 of them leave satisfied without contacting support, your deflection rate is 73%.

How Companin measures it

Companin tracks three signals to classify a session as deflected or not:

Escalated: The user explicitly requested human help or left a negative feedback rating.

Abandoned: The user stopped the conversation without a clear resolution. These are flagged as uncertain.

Resolved: The conversation ended without escalation, the user received at least one confident response, and no negative feedback was given. This is a deflection.

The dashboard shows your deflection rate as a percentage trending over time, alongside an estimated cost savings figure based on a configurable per-ticket cost.
